Abbas Kowsari, a press photographer, was born in Tehran in 1970. He began his career collaborating with the newspaper "Shargh" and the magazine "Tehran Times" starting in 1994. Among his notable artistic photography collections are "Reds and Greens," "Nocturnes," "Azadi Stadium," "Shadow of Earth," and "Shadow of Water."
Kowsari has held solo exhibitions at various galleries including Araan Gallery in Tehran (2008, 2012), Nicolas Silin Gallery in Paris (2012), and Bankside in London (2015). His works have also been featured in numerous group exhibitions at galleries such as Assar, Araan Gallery, For Arts (San Francisco), Brutto Kunsthalle (Vienna), Chelsea Art Museum (New York), Somerset House (London), Verso (Turin), Aria (New York), BredaPhoto Festival (Netherlands), Nicolas Silin (Paris), Morono Kiang Gallery (Los Angeles), and many others.
His photographs have been exhibited at the Biennial of Photography at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam (2015), Tehran Tir Art Fair (2018), Art Paris (2019), and MIART in Milan (2020, 2021). His works have been published in various international publications including Paris Match, Der Spiegel, Colors Magazine, Time, and The New York Times.
Abbas Kowsari was a winner of the Prix Pictet Photography Prize in 2009 and a finalist for the Contemporary Art Prize Magic of Persia in London in 2009. His photographs have also been featured in the book "One Hundred Years of Urban Landscape Photography in Tehran" (2019), the first and second editions of the Kaveh Golestan Annual Press Photography Award (2005, 2006), and selected photographs from the Eleventh Press Festival (2004).
