Aliasghar Petgar, born in 1918 in Tabriz, was an Iranian painter. He initially trained under Mir Mosavvar Arzhangi and later moved to Tehran in 1933. From 1935 to 1939, he studied at the Sanaye Jadideh school (The School of New Arts). In 1940, he established his private studio, where he held his first solo exhibition in 1945. He passed away in 1992, the same year a retrospective of his works was held at Seyhoun Art Gallery, Tehran.
Petgar initially experimented with landscape painting and later turned to portraiture. Over time, he moved away from precise realism, adopting a freer brushstroke, vibrant colors, and a focus on light and shadow to depict landscapes, people, and market scenes.
