Alikhan Abdollahi was born in 1963 in Bamyan, Afghanistan. He came to Tehran in the late 80s and settled in a building as a caretaker.
Alikhan has not received any art education and is considered a self-taught artist or an outsider. His interest and activity in the field of sculpture has a long history, but the turning point of his work is when he succeeds in sculpting with papier mache paste. Most of his sculptures are created with this material and technique.
Alikhan Abdollahi's works have been displayed in various group exhibitions. "Alikhan's strange creatures" solo show at Artibition Gallery is one of his most important exhibitions. Also, many private collections inside and outside Iran include works of Alikhan Abdollahi.
His works are made up of hybrid imaginary creatures; Sometimes it is a combination of human head and animal body, sometimes it is a combination of different animal parts, and sometimes it is basically strange creatures, with several human and animal heads on a vertical column-like body. His works are reminiscent of ancient statues and mythological characters. The papier mache technique and the resulting color have also contributed to this similarity.
