Amir Shahrokh Faryousefi was born in 1965 in Tehran in an art-loving family. After finishing high school and receiving a diploma, he graduated and went to calligraphers’ association. Faryousefi took calligraphy courses in the Iran Calligraphers Association with Keykhosro Khoroush, Mohammad Ali Gorjestani and Abbas Rafiei Farahani, and studied Iranian with Mohammad Bagher Aghamiri.
Shahrokh Faryousefi held his first solo exhibition in 2013 at Iranian Artists Forum. Since then, his works have been displayed in several solo and group exhibitions. Faryousefi has a teaching experience in Kamal-Ol-Molk Conservatory, Vice President of Boys Visual Arts Conservatory and Vice President of Iranian Painting Association.
Faryousefi works are inspired by calligraphy. He has used calligraphy in creating voluminous works. In this regard, he said: "I was inspired only by calligraphy, and the form of the letters does not match the standards of Iranian calligraphy." In fact, my job is to design the letters and they are not at all in line with Nastaliq and... but I designed them according to the purpose I had... I saw the letters as a sculptural flower and added and deleted many times to get the form that I want to arrive. Most calligraphers work one-dimensionally and see letters only on paper, but have no idea of their size. Before this, we had a few artists like Parviz Tanavoli who saw the letters in volume, and if anyone wanted to remove the letters from the surface of the paper, they finally did it in relief. "Persian letters have a lot of functionality, but few people have paid attention to them from this point of view."
