Bita Vakili, a contemporary painter, was born in Tehran. Vakili started painting in high school. Then she went to the University of Art and Architecture and received her bachelor's degree in painting in 1994. She pursued her master's degree in painting at the Tehran University of Art and graduated in 2000. She is a member of the Iranian Painters Association and the Visual Arts Development Institute. Vakili's works have participated in more than 80 group exhibitions in Iran, Dubai, Canada, Armenia, and France.
The combination of materiality, color, and context in Bita Vakili's paintings with meaningful forms is one of the main characteristics of Vakili's works. Impasto and the importance given to the physicality of paint place the paint itself and the painterly practice as the subject of the work. The prominent textures of her paintings are reminiscent of Anselm Kiefer's paintings. In the professional path of this painter, her works have gradually found a more abstract direction. After a while, depicting natural events was not enough for her. According to herself, she was looking for the flavor of space. She deals with the revelation of forms and feelings through this abstract expression. Her pure presentation gives the audience multiple and endless interpretations of the work. These artworks' creativity and ambiguity expand a world of meaning in unique and new forms to the eyes of the audience. Bita Vakili's paintings have been collected in a booklet and published by Ideh Publishing House.
Vakili's contemporary visual language has taken her works beyond the borders of Iran, and the art market has shown great appreciation for her works. In 2015, selling one of Vakili's works at the 12th Christie's auction for $48,000 registered her name as the most expensive Middle Eastern female artist.
