Farah Abolghasem was born in 1960 in Tehran. After receiving her high school diploma, she decided to pursue painting and graduated in 1988 from Al-Zahra University with a degree in painting.
Abolghasem held her first exhibition in 1990 at Seyhoun Gallery, which was a group exhibition with two of her friends. In 2002, she won the first prize from the Municipality of Paris. She has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in countries such as France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates.
Abolghasem has teaching experience at Azad University and the Faculty of Cinema and Theater. Her works are held in private collections and museums, including the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art and the Windsor & Newton Museum in England.
Farah Abolghasem's recent works take a semi-abstract approach to still life, often inspired by her everyday life. Her color palette is typically bright, with white featuring prominently in her paintings.
Art expert Aydin Aghdashloo has said about her work: "Like her contemporaries, she has a curious and observant view of global events in contemporary visual arts. While continually searching for and shaping her personal and sensory world, she does not feel bound to follow current trends or to perpetuate and update old traditions. She represents the perspective of her time without insisting on adhering to common practices or maintaining traditional forms."
