Mamali Shafahi, a filmmaker and multimedia artist, was born in Tehran in 1982. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Photography from Tehran University of Art and has studied visual and performing arts at ENSAPC (École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts Paris), Cergy.
His works are a blend of drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation, and performance. Shafahi is interested in using technologies that have transformed our world, such as the internet, smartphones, and virtual reality. He seeks not only to create a bridge between the past and future, generations, and cultures but also to find a connection between different techniques.
Mamali Shafahi's works were first exhibited at the 9th Tehran Biennial (2004), and his first solo exhibition was held in 2005 at the Azad Art Gallery. Shafahi has since held solo exhibitions in various galleries, both domestically and internationally, including in Paris and Antwerp.
Since 2008, Shafahi's works have been showcased at art fairs such as Art Athina in Athens, FIAC in Paris, Art Paris, Art Dubai, Art Brussels, Liste in Basel, Asia Now, Art Basel Hong Kong, and The Armory Show in New York. Additionally, he has received the UNESCO Aschberg Bursaries for Artists, and was a nominee and finalist for the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize.
