Manouchehr is an Iranian designer, painter, and lecturer. His figurative works hang on the border between drawing and painting. Before turning to art, he studied English language and literature at Shiraz University, but he came to Tehran in 1958 and studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts. His first solo exhibition was held while he was still a student at the University. He traveled to the United States in 1971 and 1977 and was educated in the student community of New York. At the same time as the revolution took place, he moved to the United States for the third time to continue studying art at Indiana University. Three years later, he returned to Iran and continued his educational and professional activities. It was in 1998 that he succeeded in obtaining a first-class art degree, equivalent to a doctorate, from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. In Manouchehr Motabar's first individual show, the design process wins over the painting process. He is one of the first Iranian artists who gave originality to design and recognized it as an independent artistic medium and not just a context for painting. The first appearance of Manouchehr Motabar in auctions dates back to May 2014 at the Tehran auction house.
