Mitra Kavian, a contemporary painter, was born in Isfahan. She graduated from Tehran Azad University with a bachelor's degree in painting. In 1995, Kavian exhibited her works as a group for the first time at the Bahman Cultural Center. In the same year, she participated in another group exhibition at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1998 at the Haft Samar Gallery in Tehran. In 2000, she participated in the fifth biennial of contemporary painting at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts. In 2001, she received an award from the Isfahan Museum of Contemporary Arts. In the same year, she became a member of the Dana Group. A group consisting of Iranian women artists, such as Farah Osouli and Gizella Varga Sinai, etc., which was established in 2001 with the aim of presenting their works independently. During its six years of activity, it exhibited the works of many Iranian women artists in the country and internationally. Her first solo exhibition outside the borders of Iran was held in Milan, Italy in 2003. Kavian's works have been displayed in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Iran, China, the United States, Belgium, the Netherlands, etc. The experience of being at the Creek Art Fair (hosted by XVA) in Dubai is visible in this artist's career. In addition, some of her works have been auctioned at the Tehran Auction.

Kavian's works can be divided into three groups. The first group are depicted on large-sized canvases inspired by the art of painting and are performed using traditional motifs in this tradition. Subject-wise, these paintings are based on traditional formats in painting, namely hunting grounds, Bazm or Razm gatherings. In another period of her work, she created realistic paintings using a totally different approach. The third category of this artist's works includes paintings that, while committed to representation, present a more imaginative and free world to the audience.
