Mohammad Ali Bani Asadi, born in Semnan in 1955, is widely acknowledged as an exemplary artist specializing in painting, illustration, and caricature. In 1973, he earned a mathematics diploma in Semnan before relocating to Tehran. There, he pursued studies in sculpture at Kamal-ol-Molk art school, guided by Professor Rafi Halati during 1973 and 1974.
Bani Asadi became an esteemed member of the Faculty of Visual Arts at Tehran University of Fine Arts and played a pivotal role as a founding board member of the Association of Children and Adolescent Book Illustrators. He served as the inaugural chairman of its board of directors. In 2012, his exceptional talents led to his recognition as one of the world's preeminent illustrators, earning him a finalist position for the Hans Christian Andersen Prize, often referred to as the Little Nobel. Additionally, he received nominations for the Astrid Lindgren Award for four consecutive years, commencing in 2013.
Apart from his academic commitments, Bani Asadi is deeply involved in imparting knowledge at the university and dedicating himself to the illustration of children's books. Beyond his contributions to book illustrations, he actively engages in magazine illustration for children and teenagers, notably in Baran, Kayhan Bacheha, and Soroush. This accomplished artist has left his mark by illustrating approximately 80 books aimed at a young audience.
The inaugural solo exhibition showcasing Mohammad Ali Bani Asadi's artworks took place at Golestan Gallery in 1993. Since then, he has been an active participant in over 40 solo and group exhibitions, both domestically and internationally, including numerous biennials.
