Mohammad Hossein Emad, born in 1957 in Arak, Iran, is a leading figure in the contemporary Iranian sculpture scene. His sculptures, known for their raw textures and minimalist approach, invite viewers into a contemplative engagement with the work, encouraging them to walk around, listen to the natural sounds, and observe the interplay of light and shadow. This immersive experience is fundamental to Emad's artistic philosophy, where he seeks to create a deep, physical connection between the artwork and its audience.

Emad's choice of materials and innovative spatial forms define his unique visual language. He skillfully contrasts elements such as light and weight, fullness and emptiness, to explore the cyclical forces of nature. His brief residency in Paris from late 2008 to 2010 had a profound impact on his practice, inspiring notable series like "Exports from Iran" and "Battling Amnesia." These works reflect his fascination with modern materials, particularly corrugated cardboard, which he used to explore light transmission and texture.

Currently based in Tehran, Emad has been actively exhibiting his work across the country for over two decades. His notable solo exhibitions include "Acceptance" (2016) and "Lit Shadow" (2013) at Assar Art Gallery in Tehran, as well as "Battling Amnesia" (2010) at Aan Gallery, Tehran. His works have also been featured in significant group exhibitions, such as the 7th Sculpture Biennale at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art (2017) and the 6th Sculpture Biennale at the Niavaran Cultural Center (2011).

Emad's sculptures are not only displayed in galleries but also installed in public spaces across Iran, including prominent pieces like "Wazir (Minister)" at Goft-o-gu Park and "Professor Hessabi" at Tajrish Square in Tehran. His presence in international art fairs such as Contemporary Istanbul (2015) and ArtInternational Istanbul (2014) demonstrates his active engagement in the global art scene. 

Recognition of Emad's contributions to art includes numerous awards, such as an Honorary Doctorate from the Ministry of Culture of Iran (2011) and the Best Artist award at the Fourth Tehran Sculpture Biennale (2005). His involvement in the art community extends to his roles as a jury member for various sculpture biennials and as an instructor at the University of Art in Tehran since 2006. He has also served as an adviser to the Scientific Council for Sculpting at the Tehran Beautification Organization and directed the Visual Arts Festival "Breath" in 2016.

Emad is a member of the Association of Iranian Sculptors and La Maison des Artistes à Paris, reflecting his active engagement with both national and international art communities. Through his sculptures, Emad continues to bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary art, offering a profound and contemplative experience to his audience.
