Mojtabi Ramzi, Iranian artist and sculptor, was born in Tehran in 1973. After finishing high school in graphic design, he continued his studies to get B.A in painting and M.A in animation in Tehran.
Ramzi started making sculptures and teaching it at the same time more than two decades ago, he explains that "I learned making sculptures experimentally as I was teaching it; Gradually with my students who loved the work. Later, I continued the work in a space called Atelier Halqeh.
The core themes of Ramzi's artworks encompass life, liberty, destiny, fate, and symbols of gambling. He endeavors to contemporize legendary creatures such as Griffins and Sphinxes, infusing them with a modern essence. Throughout his narrative, he draws inspiration from visual traditions rooted in prehistorical, ancient Iranian, and Mesopotamian art.
Ramzi aims to establish connections with diverse audiences globally, intertwining local motifs and legends into his works. He has showcased his creations in six solo exhibitions across Tehran, Paris, and Beirut. Additionally, he actively participated in various events, including art fairs, residencies, biennials, and auctions held in Tehran, Paris, London, Toronto, Budapest, Transylvania, Seoul, Beirut, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
Mojtaba Ramzi is also an environmental activist and is one of the two founders of the Yahya Award, an annual award established in memory of a famous Iranian warden named Yahya and in recognition of the services of Iranian environmentalists.
