Mostafa Hamidi was born in Fariman in 1951. Although the origin of Coffeehouse painting is considered to be Tehran, but the city of Mashhad has also had a significant role in its development due to its religious background. Mostafa Hamidi's works were published in the book "Sote Delan" and "From Coffeehouse to Niavaran" by Hadi Saif. Many of his works are kept in museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Arts. In addition to painting coffee houses for many years, Mustafa Hamidi took photographs of pilgrims and visitors in their studio in Mashhad. His older brother Mohammad, was his teacher in coffee house painting.
He was interested in traditional painting and Shahnameh. He has sometimes increased the focus on the figures in his works by removing the details of the background and emphasizing more on the foreground. Bright colors are used in most of Mostafa Hamidi's works, which is the distinguishing feature between his works and the majority of Coffeehouse paintings. Like his older brother, he was influenced by Qollar-Aqasi in the foundation of his works.
