Peyman Hooshmandzadeh, photographer and writer, was born in Tehran. His ethnographies are somewhere between documentary photography and artistic photography. The characteristic of his photos is that he digs into the corners and secrets of public places and people's relationships. Hooshmandzadeh's pictures of coffee houses and public baths are more memorable in the minds of art lovers than any other of his works. He is a graduate student of photography at the Islamic Azad University of Tehran. From his student days, he studied documentary and press photography. He has worked with newspapers such as Shargh, Khordad, Etemad, and Reuters. In 1995, the first solo exhibition of Hooshmandzadeh's works was held in Tehran's Keyhan Gallery with the title "Der Radif Akhar." Two years later, he won the second prize in the Tehran International Documentary Photo Exhibition. The same year, he also won the bronze medal at the Tehran International Biennial of FIAP. He has achieved many such honors during his years of photography. Among them, we can mention the second prize, the annual press festival of Tehran, Iran, in 2000, winning the first prize, the first and second Iran Marine Photo Festival in 2004 and 2005, and being the honored artist at the 2005 Baird International Art Award ceremony (China). Hooshmandzadeh has exhibited his works in art centers in cities such as Thessaloniki, New York, Copenhagen, Istanbul, and Paris.
In the description of this artist's works, Ruyin Pakbaz said: "Hooshmandzadeh explores the subcultures of Iranian society in his more personal documentary experiences: comparing the leisure time of the traditional class and the new middle class, the behavior of the male body, the contradictions of the urban landscape. In the "Turkmens" collection, he has been engaged in ethnographic photography for more than a decade with the same personal perspective. Sometimes he moves away from documentary and turns to still photography. A humorous tone is evident in most of his photos. Hooshmandzadeh also writes stories; the books "Ha Kardan" and "Shakh" have been published so far.
