Reza Amir Yar Ahmadi, a sculptor and painter, was born in Borujerd. Between 1973 and 1977, he studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, Tehran. Then he joined the art school of decorative arts and continued studying sculpture. In 2005, with the approval of the country's artists evaluation council (Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance), he obtained a degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree.
In 1989, Amir Yar Ahmadi exhibited a collection of his sculptures at Tehran's Seyhoun Gallery. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Tehran's contemporary sculpture biennial as well as biennials in Beijing, Ankara, Monte Carlo, Delhi, and Osaka. In 2010, he was awarded a prize at the second biennial of urban sculpture.
Amir Yar Ahmadi's work evolved from figuration to abstraction and conceptualization. He made bronze figures of horses, cows, and humans during the 1980s. A series of plaster inscriptions entitled "God's script" was another of his works. Later, he created a series of abstract cedars suspended in space. He presented conceptual works at the 4th Contemporary Sculpture Biennial in Tehran (2005): painted metal tables and chairs devoid of conventional functionality. Also, he has extensive experience of making sculptures of literary and cultural figures. The Besmellah Tree (1995), a statue of Molana Jalaluddin Balkhi (Jondoshipur University, Ahvaz), and "In the Beginning" (1992) are examples of other artwork by this artist.
