Mehrdad Khataei was born in 1976 in Tabriz. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Islamic Azad University.
In 2015, he received the first prize of Carnello Foundation in Italy in printmaking. Mehrdad Khataei was also a finalist of the 4th International Printmaking Biennale in Spain. He has participated in printmaking biennials in different countries, including Japan, America, France, Russia, Serbia and Turkey, in many of which he has received awards or commendations. Khataei also has a history of teaching at Tehran University's Faculty of Fine Arts, Al-Zahra University, and Visual Arts Conservatory.
Khataei is best known for his unique drawings and printmaking. Mehrdad Khatai's drawings are often figurative and are drawn with an expressive approach. The atmosphere of the works is surreal and the type of composition induces a sense of suspense to the audience. In the type of lines that Mehrdad Khataei uses, the effect of years of miniature painting can be clearly seen. The atmosphere of his prints is slightly different; Although the sense of suspense is still there, the atmosphere is darker. The uniqueness of Mehrdad Khataei's prints is due to his technique. Khataei achieves its own space by combining several different printmaking techniques; A space where traces of drawing and expressive lines can be easily seen.
