Iranian Art in the Secondary Market: Spring 2025 Report
23 July 2025
The Iranian art scene in the first quarter of 1404 SH (March to June 2025) witnessed a diverse range of artistic and commercial events. The Tehran Auction, held on May 22, focused on modern and contemporary Iranian art, offering 100 works by 97 Iranian artists. Galleries inside the country showcased exhibitions of modern and contemporary masters alongside younger artists, while internationally, art fairs, auctions, and selected exhibitions also featured Iranian artists and galleries.
In spring 2025, alongside the 23rd edition of Tehran Auction, nearly 70 auctions organized by 51 houses in 40 cities worldwide offered works by Iranian artists. Among these, three specialized Middle Eastern modern and contemporary art sales — staged by Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Bonhams in Dubai and London — included notable Iranian works. Total sales of Iranian art across all these auctions reached approximately USD 4 million, with half of the total value accounted for by the works of just eight artists.
The following sections provide a more detailed analysis of the performance of Iranian art in the secondary market — auctions — during spring 2025.
