Ali Khosravi, a distinguished Iranian graphic designer and illustrator, was born in 1948 in Kerman. He is best known for his enduring cover designs for books and periodicals such as Negin and Soroush. The emblem of Soroush magazine also stands among his most memorable creations.
Khosravi pursued his artistic education at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, majoring in Graphic Design, and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1968. Following the completion of his academic studies, he worked for a period in the studio of Morteza Momayez as a designer. In 1974, he joined Soroush Publishing and continued his professional career there as a graphic artist. He also played an active and influential role in the field of poster design; among his notable works is the poster for Bahram Beyzai’s film Travelers (Mosaferan).
Khosravi possessed exceptional mastery in hatching and pen drawing techniques, through which he skillfully portrayed many eminent figures of literature and culture. His portraits of Morteza Momayez, Ahmad Shamlou, Mehdi Akhavan-Sales, Najaf Daryabandari, Simin Behbahani, and other cultural icons are considered outstanding examples within his artistic oeuvre. A selection of these portraits was published by Nazar Publishing in 2015, while an earlier compilation entitled A Lasting Trace was released in 1991.
Khosravi’s paintings reveal a distinct sensibility compared to his portraiture. In these works, he pays limited attention to the precise depiction of faces and bodies and, by departing from realism, evokes poetic and dreamlike atmospheres. His compositions often feature human figures in traditional attire, situated within settings reminiscent of vernacular architecture.
Ali Khosravi passed away in 2026.
