Alireza Asbahi, known as Si Si, was born in Tehran in 1969. He received formal education through the fifth grade of primary school. After spending some time working in the carpet trade, he devoted two decades to buying and selling goods at Tehran’s Friday Market. Following a range of professional experiences, Si Si turned to artmaking, developing a distinctive practice he calls “Kilim Art,” rooted in the techniques and visual traditions of Persian kilim weaving. Within the broader field of Outsider Art, his work occupies a position between self-taught art and Primitive Art. Si Si lives and works in Tehran.
