Avak Hayrapetian was born in Tabriz in 1926. He started studying art at the age of 15 and studied painting with the famous poet and painter Margar Garabekyan for ten years. At the age of 25, Avak went to Europe to complete his education.
At first, Hayrapetian was following the traditional realism school; But after returning from Europe, he became fascinated by impressionism. After his success in painting, he returned to his hometown and dedicated himself to painting by establishing his own atelier. Avak Hayrapetian made paintings of Iranian nature and villagers. His “migration” painting, which represents the migration of the Bakhtiari tribe, is kept in the Museum of Armenia.
He also trained many students, among whom we can mention artists such as Ali Akbar Sadeghi, Aydin Aghdashloo, Arthur Sarkisian, and Robert Kazarian. Avak Hayrapetian went to America permanently in 1985 and died there in 2008.
