Behzad Golpayegani, painter, graphic designer and founder of modern typography in Iran, was born on January 10, 1939 in Tehran. In 1957, he entered the Tehran Boys Fine Arts Academy, and then in 1960, he entered the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Tehran. In 1964, after attending the third Tehran Biennale (1964), Golpayegani left the school and traveled to France to study and work and attended the textile design course in University of Fine Arts, Paris.

It should be mentioned that Golpayegani was one of the first students of the Faculty of Decorative Arts and was among the artists of Saqqakhaneh School who later chose the field of graphics as his specialty and founded the first typography focused collection in the history of Iranian graphic design while working in Franklin Publications.
Golpayegani held his first solo exhibition in 1972 called "White on White". His second solo exhibition with the same title was held in 1975. In the same year, he had his second trip to France, although this time he left his education half-finished and returned to Iran. In 1979 he photographed demonstrations in Islamic revolution.
After the birth of his second child in 1980, Golpayegani started working at Azad University and the National Library of Iran. The artist died in Tehran on December 19, 1985.
