Mehrdad Afsari is an Iranian photographer, video artist, and documentary filmmaker, born in Khoy in 1977. He received his BA in Photography in 2000 and his MA in the same field from the University of Art, Tehran, in 2006.
Working across still and moving image, Afsari explores philosophical and existential themes. Time, memory, loss, mortality, presence, and the human relationship to the world occupy a central place in his practice. His work is grounded in lived experience and often reflects on the space between the objective and the subjective.
Since the late 1990s, Afsari has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events in Iran and internationally. His work is held in various public and private collections. Alongside his artistic practice, he has been engaged in teaching and research in the fields of art and photography.
