Shadi Ghadirian was born in Tehran in 1974. She studied photography at Islamic Azad University, completing her degree in 1998. That same year, she presented her first solo exhibition at Golestan Gallery in Tehran. Since then, her work has been exhibited extensively in Iran and internationally.
Ghadirian’s practice often examines the social construction of femininity within historical contexts, particularly through the tensions between tradition and modernity. She frequently employs staged photography or juxtaposes intimate, domestic spaces with broader social realities to explore these themes. Among her best-known photographic series are From the Qajar series (1998), Like Every Day (2002), Be Colorful (2005), Nil, Nil (2008), and White Square (2009).
