Taha Behbahani, born into an art-loving family in Tehran, was a multifaceted artist known for his roles as a theater and television director, university professor, painter, and sculptor. He first learned the basics of painting from his father and later studied art at the Kamal ol-Molk Conservatory under the guidance of Ali Akbar Najmabadi. After completing his studies, he earned a bachelor's degree in set design from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Tehran.
In 1970, Behbahani showcased his paintings for the first time at Tehran's Khaneh Aftab Gallery. He then pursued further studies in puppetry direction in Paris and Salzburg, Austria. Upon returning to Iran, he began teaching at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts and eventually became the director of its puppetry department in the 1970s.
His solo exhibition at the French Foundation in 1981 and another significant display titled "Dream of an Angel" at Tehran's Museum of Contemporary Arts in 1999 marked milestones in his career. Over the years, he participated in more than 35 solo and group exhibitions worldwide. His collection titled "Taha's Birds" was published in 2000.
Behbahani's artworks often reflect allegorical themes akin to surrealism, frequently featuring a solitary, contemplative bird as a symbol of human existence in his paintings and sculptures. His works are held in the private collections of over 45 collectors across the United States, France, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and the Netherlands.
Aside from his artistic pursuits, Behbahani directed over 150 educational television programs and staged two theatrical productions at the Shiraz Art Festival. Despite his diverse talents, he focused primarily on painting and sculpture since the 1960s. His daughter, Tara, has also embraced painting and has gained recognition as a respected artist in her own right.
