The Russian Museum will present a Retrospective of works by the prominent contemporary Iranian artist Reza Derakshani. The first solo exhibition of the painter, musician and performance artist, widely known in his homeland as well as in Europe and the USA, took place in Tehran when the artist was nineteen. Since then Reza Derakshani has been represented in gallery shows and museum exhibitions all over the world. In his art, he explores the themes and techniques of traditional Persian art while reflecting upon the Italian colorist and American abstract expressionist traditions. This multifaceted cultural background creates an idiosyncratic artistic style through which the artist creates his own poetic and mythological reality filled with individual emotions and recollections.
Iranian art is soon to become the newest trend in contemporary art. By organizing this exhibition, the Russian Museum aims to be at the vanguard of the movement and bring the finest artists from the country to Russian and international audiences.
