AB Gallery is pleased to present renowned Iranian artist Shahriar Ahmadi in a solo exhibition. Referring to the title, the exhibition will show Ahmadis best artworks of the past years. Among them the famous work series "Archaic Techniques of Lovemaking" and "Rumi in my Chalice". Shahriar Ahmadi is famous for his expressive and gestural style, which translates the literary heritage of Iran in an emotional and personal way. In his works, which are also inspired by the legendary Sufi mystic Rumi, he explores the emotional and the psychological thinking of the people. His abstract works on plain substrates are characterized by their rich colors and their complexity. Often one recognizes the subject on only at second glance, but it is all the more impressive in memory. Ahmadis works go close to the viewer. They play with emotions and passions, with joy, longings and with love. Each of my paintings is a slice of my imagination in a single moment, yet they reveal all my secrets within that moment. I paint to place next to each other all these moments in time which represent life, to engage in a dialogue with history and present a kind of dialectic (...) My paintings are filled with riddles and mystery. They rip me out of my body and take me to a faraway land and time where no one else has been and is only known to people through legend and myth. They are filled with tales and accounts which if in a book, would take days to read. But on my canvas, they immediately inform viewers of their secrets. (Shahriar Ahmadi) Shahriar Ahmadi belongs to the few outstanding contemporary Middle Eastern painters. He was born in Kamiaran, Iran in 1979. He holds a Master Degree of the Art University, Theran, Iran. In 2010 he was invited by AB Gallery and ORYX Foundation to take part in the residency program in Lucerne/Switzerland. Ahmadi has had over 50 solo and group exhibitions in Switzerland, Iran, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, China and USA. He lives and works in Tehran, Iran.
