In the years I've known Afshin, his most defining trait has been his unwavering meticulousness-in his social interactions, his friendships, and certainly in his primary commitment as a doctor. (While I haven't experienced this aspect of him directly, my observations leave no doubt that "he is true".)
Looking at his paintings of houseplants, I can sense the intensity of his diligent care. With the same quick resolve that turns an idea into action, he tends to his plants.
His friendship with me that has evolved over the years is marked by such a profound sense of responsibility that I often feel like his most cherished and most exceptional friend. However, I have come to realize that Afshin extends this same spirit to each and every one of his friends.
When a plant falls ill or becomes infested, he tends to it with such dedication that in no time, it returns to full health, looking and feeling even better than before. Observing the plants in his apartment, I sense Afshin's passion and joy for life and his commitment to nurturing vitality- whether in his work, his relationships, or his environment.
Afshin is highly social and places great value on friendship. He never fully retreats into the solitude of his apartment. His plants become silent witnesses to his private world and unspoken thoughts. I can easily picture him conversing with them daily. In these quiet intervals, when the urge and the impulse to paint arise, he immortalizes his plants on canvas, preserving and reflecting on them. Rather than revisiting photos, he likely turns to his paintings to check on them-a visual record of their state and perhaps his own at that particular moment.
Afshin Sadipoor has gained his artistic experience through active, dynamic, and passionate engagement in the art world. Influenced by artists such as Jalal Shabahangi, David Hockney, Alex Katz, Elizabeth Peyton, and many others, he "lives" his paintings. Bita Fayyazi December 2024
