Ahmad Rafi has been living in Germany since 1365. Among the Iranian galleries, he has collaborated with Azad Art Gallery. Ahmad Rafi is a representational painter. Although he works diligently on the exact rendition of an object, he also succeeds in setting new accents within the discipline of realistic painting. His painting is obviously based on a critical need for self-reflection. Painting for him is an expression about the art of painting itself.
Peter Forster, art historian and curator of the Wiesbaden Museum, writes about Rafi's works: "He has managed to open new doors in the genre of hyperrealism with his continuous and intelligent effort in painting. His painting is clearly based on a desire for self-reflection and a new understanding of the art world. The canvas, which is always the carrier of the subject, has become the subject of painting in this collection. Showing the shadows, lights and movement of the fabric on the canvas and depicting the elaborately painted frame makes this picture a challenge between reality and fantasy. The play of light and shadow gives the image a sense of space that goes deep. In hyperrealist painting, they try to deceive the viewer with naturalistic painting methods and pretend that objects are real. Rafi allows this to happen in front of the subject of the painting, which is a canvas, and emerges in an invisible space. The space covered by the canvas itself.”
