Hengema Sadri was born in 1971 in Tehran. She is a visiting professor at Tabriz University of Islamic Art. After 20 years of painting, Sadri decided to pursue painting seriously.
Sadri held her first solo exhibition in 1995 at Khaneh Sabze Gallery. She has participated in many exhibitions in Iran and abroad such as Mexico, Italy, Russia, Indonesia and Lebanon.
Portrait plays a central role in most of Sadri's works. Next to the portraits, there are usually elements that refer to Iranian painting. This induces a sense of duality in the audience while watching the works. Showing this duality is Sadri's goal. By combining Iranian painting and popular realist painting, she has achieved her own expression and brings the audience along with this view.
Her paintings refer to the transformation and combination of cultures in contemporary Iranian society. A change that affects the individual and collective identity of Iranians. The existence of each of these cultures and their relationship with each other is like a discourse that is the product of three Iranian, Islamic and Western cultures and can create a new identity for Iranians. Hengameh Sadri says about this: "Identity is not a fixed thing. It is true that we cannot control our ethnicity and language, and these will come to us without interference and occupation, but we can make decisions about our lifestyle and not accept it as a fixed thing."
