Hossein Behzad (1894-1964) was born in Tehran. Behzad's father was a painter and miniature pencil maker. Because of his son's interest in painting, he took him to Mullah Ali Qalamdan-saz and introduced him to Iranian painting.

At the age of 18, Hossein Behzad started his own miniature workspace and started copying the works of famous Iranian artists such as Kamal al-Molk and Reza Abbasi. After that, he stayed in France for a year and this period greatly influenced his artistic style. Hossein Behzad has held many exhibitions, the most important of which is the solo exhibition "Looking at the Past" in the National Museum of Iran. Hossein Behzad's works have been sold in various auction houses such as Christie's and Rosebery's.

The difference between Behzad's work and his ancestors' works lies in the expression of moods and emotions in the figures. Also, his paintings have shadows, and this has caused the painting to be slightly separated from its flat and two-dimensional state. In addition, Behzad separated painting from dependence on the text and representation of books and tried to present his works in pieces larger than the size of books. Regarding the figures and faces used in Hossein Behzad's works, they have moved away from the Mongolian style and the proportions of the body are closer to the real proportions.

Hossein Behzad Museum was established in cooperation with the cultural heritage ministry in one of the palaces located in Saad Abad complex called Karbasi Palace and then in an agreement with his son Parviz Behzad, 289 of his artworks were transferred to this building.
