Born in 1937, Khadeir Al Shakarji studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Baghdad, and later on went on to teach there. Shakarji deals with themes related to Iraqi folklore, and scenes of local life. He was particularly interested in depicting women, as they symbolised humanity and fertility.
