Pouran Jinchi (born 1959 in Mashhad, Iran) is an Iranian-American New York based artist, who before entering the field of art, was trained in classical calligraphy in Iran and studied civil engineering at George Washington University (1982). Jinchi, ultimately decided to pursue a career in the creative industry in 1989 and thus entered UCLA and afterwards Art Students League of New York (1993) to study art.
Pouran Jinchi is mostly known for her calligraphy-based abstract works. Considering her experiences in Mashhad and coming face to face with Iranian architecture, decorations and symbolic writing, she examines the border between literary and visual narratives, and based on various teachings that she had, she works in a way between a classic calligrapher and a contemporary artist.
Jinchi has participated in more than 20 individual and group exhibitions since 1994, and her works have been presented at some famous auctions such as Christies, Bonhams, and Millon and Associes since 2007. Jinchi's works of art are in well-known public collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and the Smithsonian Institution.
