Mahdie Sohrabi’s houses are so sunk deeply down into the darkness as if one is confronted with a mirage in the murkiest moment of night. No sense of safety and warmness can be felt from these familiar and separated shapes. Split and abandoned, they are floating in a dense mass of darkness.
Though the outer shape of the houses are sharp and trenchant but they work against geometry, flat and without any kind of depth.
The intensity of contrast and discord between her shapes and common sense of a house indicates that something is happening there, a prolonged and merged incident into the texture of time and space.
Something is gone!
Something is reversible!
The wonder these paintings contains is manifested through the distance happens in the bitter moment of occurrence, the glorious moment of freedom.
