Mahjoubi represents nature in his works. The Trees and nature in his paintings have a lyrical and symbolic quality. Ruyin Pakbaz writes about his works: "After a period of experience in painting in different styles and subjects, since the early 1960s, he has turned to imaginary landscape painting. Over and over again, he has depicted rows of tall, slender trees, white horses wandering in the hills, foggy pottery roofs, and fading mountains on the far horizon. "His landscapes with cold thin colors - ranging from green and blue to purple, often evoke a romantic and imaginative mood." In his own speeches, he has constantly spoken of the sanctity of nature and the dignity of the earth as the mother of all creatures. Amir Soghrati, an art critic, writes about Mahjoubi: "Hossein Mahjoubi is one of the most beloved and mystical artists and one of the most important modernist painters in Iran, who has been painting nature for the past 70 years. His image can be found in his paintings; Eye-catching, calm and pleasant paintings, with original and beautiful images of his homeland, "Gilan with tall trees and houses with sparganium-covered roofs and white horses."
