Mohammad Ehsai is a veteran artist in the fields of calligraphy and calligraphic painting who, alongside several other artists, has successfully showcased this art form both within Iran and internationally.
Ehsai studied art at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tehran University, and later returned to teach calligraphic painting there. His artistic endeavors include holding numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, winning international awards, teaching at art universities, serving on the board of trustees for the Iranian Calligraphers and Graphic Designers Associations, and judging various art biennials.
Leveraging his deep understanding of Iranian calligraphy, Ehsai developed a modern expression in his calligraphic works. The intricate entanglement of letters and words plays a central role in his art. Rather than focusing solely on individual letters, he brings words to life on the canvas, making them dance and intertwine, creating a textured tapestry of countless knots.
Alireza Samiazar, in his book "The Birth of Iranian Modernism," writes about Mohammad Ehsai: "Without a doubt, Ehsai’s most significant contribution to the realm of calligraphic painting is his formal exploration of Persian letters, which often deconstructs the word to reveal its inner beauty. He skillfully dissects the structure of words, liberating their letters to bridge the aesthetics of Persian calligraphy with the principles of modernist painting."
