Reza Derakshani's extraordinary artistic talent was recognized at a very young age: he was receiving commissions at the age of nine. After leaving art school in Tehran, his work was largely Western in character and devoid of Persian symbolism. However, as Derakshani's artistic career progressed, his work moved towards an exploration of the natural world, which has put him back in touch with his Persian heritage. These works are centered around birds, mountains, flowers and trees. The artist sees the natural elements of his work as an expression of Persian culture's literature and poetry. Taking inspiration from the poetry, the artist combines these natural elements with his passion for his Persian origins.
