Working in a meticulous technique, using metallic colours and with an emphasis on abstract pattern akin to manuscript illumination, but portraying turbulent subjects such as waves or fire, Reza Lavassani's work is characterized by a tension between the ordered and chaotic. His use of certain motifs from the canon of Persian minature painting (the almost Far-Eastern cloud scrolls in the background for example) give this a timeless and particularly Iranian context, here juxtaposed with the furturistic form of the horse.
